I love dresses. If you have been following my blog for quite some time, you should know that I barely wear trousers. Even in winter, I prefer to put on a pair of tights and wear a dress or skirt with a warm coat. Finding a new Prague designer who has the ability how to create a beautiful feminine dress is always a pleasure. When I discovered Olga Afanassieva and her work, I knew I had to make a collaboration with her. Her aestetics fit my style and what is even better, Olga is a wonderful person that just spreads happiness. Just like her dresses.
Introducing a new Prague designer
If you are a regular reader of this blog, you already discovered two other Czech designers that I wrote about. With my team consisting of Polina and Jana, we are constantly looking for designers and artists based in Prague. We have many more collaborations planned in the near future (another Prague designer is coming up) and today it will be all about Olga Afanassieva. Olga has been in love with fashion since she was a little girl and she was flipping through the Vogue magazine with her mom. However, the actual move towards fashion design happened not so long ago. Working in the field of Artificial Intelligence (which I found super interesting), Olga has to spend a lot of time presenting in front of other people and travelling. That requires outfits that are both representative and comfortable. Olga’s dresses tick both boxes and they can be easily worn during the whole day. Starting with the morning meeting at work, finishing in a restaurant with friends. I only wore those dresses for the shoot, but I can tell you I felt super comfortable in them.
High quality materials
We are living in a world where almost everyone is in a hurry. Everything has to be done fast. Fast lifestyle, fast food, fast fashion. The quantity plays a bigger role than the quality and we are no longer surprised when our clothes doesn’t even last one season. If you really care about wearing a high quality materials, Olga is the right designer for you. Her dresses are made from natural silk and cotton and the precise execution ensures the pieces will last for ages. Olga also gets inspired by other people. One of her dresses (you can see me wearing it in the second photo) is called Marina after the performance artist Marina Abramovic who is a very strong and independent woman. Olga is also open to collaboration with other Prague designer, jewellery artist or stylist to create a complete look for her clients. This is one of the things I love about Olga. Almost everything around us is about competition. Everyone wants to be the best, everybody wants to achieve their dreams. However, a lot of us forget that we can achieve our goals way easier if we support one another. People are afraid that if they work in a group, someone may steal their ideas or become more popular. I am not saying it might not be a case, but I strongly believe that cooperating with other people is more beneficial than working alone. And Olga has a very similar approach which is wonderful.
If you love Olga’s dresses, you can check her website and pick up your favourite piece(s). Her work can be also seen in Shop Up Stories in Prague, shared retail space which tries to help independent brands to make their way and achieve their ambitions against all odds. If everything goes according to plan, Olga is also planning to open her own showroom next year. I wish her all the best and I cannot wait to see her new collections!
